From New York Times bestselling author, Penelope Ward, comes a sexy, STANDALONE second-chance romance.
They called him Mack Daddy. No, seriously, his name was Mack. Short for Mackenzie. Thus, the nickname. Perfect, right?
So was he: perfect. The perfect physical male specimen.
At the private school where I taught, Mack Morrison was the only man around in a sea of women.
Everyone wanted a piece of the hot single father of the sweet little boy.
I was riddled with jealousy, because they didn’t know that—to me—he was much more.
They didn’t know about our past.
He’d chosen my school for his son on purpose, because Mack and I, we had unfinished business.
As my friend Lorelai so eloquently put it: “Unfinished business between two people who are clearly attracted to each other is like an eternal case of blue balls.” And I was suffering in pain from my case.
I was still intensely attracted to Mack. I tried to resist him, immersing myself further into a relationship with another man just to protect my heart.
Not to mention, getting involved with a parent was strictly against school rules. But seeing Mack day in and day out was breaking me down.
And soon I might be breaking all the rules.
Author's note – Told in alternating points of view, Mack Daddy is a full-length standalone novel.ADD TO GOODREADS
So, I think it’s safe to say that we’ve all drooled over a crazy hot DILF at some point in our lives, whether it was the guy next door or a celebrity who was totally out of our league. Now imagine that he wasn’t just eye candy, but someone who was once the man you spent all of your quiet moments with, shared all of your dreams with, and then had your heart ripped out by. That’s where Frankie O’Hara found herself, face-to-face once again with Mack, the one man who could undo her with just the sound of his voice. The last place she expected to see him again was in her classroom, her safe place where she was in control and knew how to cope with her social anxieties. He wasn’t supposed to be able to affect her; she was with an amazing older man who loved her dearly, and she was living a happy life. But Mack brought back with him all of the memories she had pushed away, that connection and that unnerving sexual tension that they never got to pursue, and there was no doubt that it was going to throw her world into turmoil.
Mack, meanwhile, had been living a life that he never wanted. He loved his son dearly, but it meant not having Frankie, and it had been eating away at him for 8 years. Going back to Boston meant a second chance for him to finally be with the only woman he had ever given his heart to, but he had major hurdles to get through if Frankie was ever going to be his. A part of him knew that he didn’t deserve her, that he was breaking apart everything she had built in his absence just to get what he wanted. But he also knew that he would love her more than any man ever could for every day of their lives together, and that was something that made it all worthwhile in his eyes. Frankie knew that deep down too, but giving Mack another chance was terrifying; especially since he came with so much baggage that could destroy their chances before they even tried!
The moment Mack walked into Frankie’s classroom that first day, you could feel the effect he had on her. The tension between them was instant, there was never a doubt that these two would have amazing chemistry and we didn’t even know why at that point. But Mack just had that something that makes your heart flutter, I couldn’t decide if it was more him being such an adorable dad or the rippling muscles and dirty mind that made him so irresistible! He never once hid his intentions, he made it very clear to Frankie that he came back to get his second chance, and she was under his spell whether she wanted to be or not. He was a gentleman and gave her time, but all that did was make Frankie see more of the incredible man that she had missed for so long. She was faced with the love she had always wanted but so very many obstacles along the way, or an easy life that she had grown to love but would always fall short of her dreams. My heart hurt for her, and for Mack because he had given up so much. You want so badly for these two to figure it out, and it’s not just because of the anticipation for those scenes you know are going to be “burn my Kindle” hot!!
With dual POV and flashbacks to the past, we get a good scope of Frankie and Mack’s relationship. I loved seeing how much Frankie affected Mack’s life even when she wasn’t really aware of it. I felt like we could have gotten a little deeper, maybe had more of their time in the past to get lost in so we could really get to the bare bones of their connection, but it was still a sweet friendship that we saw growing into an intense spark between them that they both carried all of those years. And when it finally burned it was hot-hot-hot, because Frankie and Mack were incredible together!! Overall, this was another great story by Penelope Ward full of feels, fun, and of course a single daddy that will easily win the heart of every reader!
“Seriously, does he treat you right?”
“Yes. He treats me like gold.”
Why did hearing that hurt my chest? I wanted her to be happy. It shouldn’t have hurt so goddam much to hear that. ~Loc 204
“So, you’re saying that because Mack and I have unfinished business, I can’t let him go.”
“Yes. Unfinished business between two people who are clearly attracted to each other is like an eternal case of blue balls.” ~Loc 390
“I’ll make a deal with you. I’m an asshole, right?”
“You’re a scaredy cat—a pussy.”
“I’m a pussy…”
“I’ll rub some of my asshole off on you if you rub some of your pussy off on me.”
My eyes widened. “You’ll rub your asshole on me?” ~Loc 553
“And I’ll never forget the look of sadness on your face when you knew I was leaving Boston and not coming back. I remember everything, and depending on the day, that’s either a curse or a blessing.” ~Loc 2206
