ERIN REVIEWS: Slip of the Tongue by Jessica Hawkins @jess_hawk

SLIP OF THE TONGUE by Jessica Hawkins

Sadie Hunt isn’t perfect—but her husband is. Nathan Hunt has her coffee waiting every morning. He holds her hand until the last second. He worships the Manhattan sidewalk she walks on. Until one day, he just…stops. And Sadie finds herself in the last place she ever expected to be. Lonely in her marriage.

When rugged and sexy Finn Cohen moves into the apartment across the hall, he and Sadie share an immediate spark. Finn reveals dreams for a different life. Sadie wants to save her marriage. Their secrets should keep them apart, not ignite a blistering affair. But while Sadie’s marriage runs colder by the day, she and Finn burn hotter.

Her husband doesn’t want her anymore.
The man next door would give up everything to have her.
The best word to describe this book for me is WOW! I’m a huge fan of Jessica’s work, and because I’ve grown to love her writing style, I thought I knew what to expect when I dove into her latest release. Boy was I wrong, and I love that I was! Whereas normally you can bet on a smoking hot, twisted, crazy ride of a story from this author, that’s not at all what you’re getting here. No, Slip of the Tongue is a very real, genuine, emotional tale about a woman who is slowly waking up from her perfect marriage to realize her own flaws…what they will mean for her life.

Sadie is pretty much your typical spoiled wife. She has had a doting, loving, passionate husband make her feel adored at every step of the way, so when two months ago that suddenly stopped, it was like the rug was pulled out from under her and she was left knocked out on the floor. There was no explanation, no terrible fight that was a catalyst, and no reason to assume that Nathan would want to hurt her. But he was. For two months, he was cold, the physical closeness was absent, and he was downright rude on a regular basis. Sadie seemed to be in denial, she was so sure of Nathan’s love that even at his worst she simply took it and turned the other cheek. There were definitely times when I wanted to slap both of them for how they were acting, him for being so cold and her for putting up with it. But then there was the other factor…Finn. Finn, the gorgeous neighbor who moves across the hall and tempts Sadie in every way. He’s sweet, attentive, affectionate, and of course sexy as hell, and he’s exactly what she needs. I know what you’re thinking at this point, because I was too. But things aren’t all what they seem, nothing is cut and dry, and what you expect to happen is probably not what does!

Sadie’s story may seem like something you’ve read a million times over, but I promise you it’s not. You will feel her pain, you will thoroughly enjoy the moments when her lust is unleashed, and you will truly be surprised by the turns her life takes as she wades her way through discovering who she needs to be and who her heart belongs to! Another fabulous read by Jessica Hawkins!

I’m glad I stopped for my new neighbor, though. He’s chasing off the dark clouds that’ve been hanging around lately. ~Loc 69

“You have the body of an angel,” he continues. “Or a devil, I haven’t decided.”

I shift my eyes from the painting to his profile. “Is that a compliment?”

“No,” he says, looking back at me. “It’s trouble.” ~Loc 3180

“I don’t. But if I had your love, I wouldn’t waste it like he does. He’s playing a game with you. He’ll regret pushing you away, though, when he realizes I’m here, waiting to catch you.” ~Loc 3598

My love for him isn’t supposed to hurt this much. It feels like it’s killing me from the inside, and it’s starting with my heart in a blender. I never wanted anything or anyone other than him, but he withdrew his love to hurt me, and for what? ~Loc 4900
