ERIN REVIEWS: Bad Ex Karma by Donna Cummings @BookEmDonna

Bad Ex Karma by Donna Cummings

The dating gods must be crazy.

I'd thought my five-year anniversary would include a fancy dinner, some great sex, and maybe fending off a marriage proposal. Instead, it was the worst sex ever, and at the restaurant, my boyfriend broke up with me.

It's like I've been cursed with Bad Ex Karma. Whenever I try to date a new guy, he ends up with a concussion or a trip to the ER.

My internal "disaster consultants", the What Ifs, completely missed the clues leading to the breakup, so now they're working overtime to protect me from another potential heartbreak. My two best friends set me up on dates while assuring me it won't put men on the endangered species list.

There's one man who seems completely immune to the curse: a sexy chef named Jonathan. He keeps popping up in my life, and he stirs up the most delicious feelings. Maybe Bad Ex Karma isn't such a bad thing after all. . .

Once again, Donna Cummings has combined fun and sexy with a side of a little something extra to pull at the heart strings with this entertaining story about finding a second chance at a happy ending!  Delia thought she had it all when the carpet was rather shockingly torn out from under her, and she’s left to pick up the pieces and move on…but bad luck seems to follow her at every turn she makes, leaving her to wonder if she’s just destined to be alone.  It would take one hell of a guy to break the pattern, and Jonathan may be just that guy if she can let her guard down.

This story was like sitting down with your besties and watching one of them go through one crazy, hilarious experience after another as she tried to find that special someone!  Delia was hesitant to move past her terrible break up, but her two best friends did what any truly good gal pal would do and they pushed her back out there.  But fate seemed to be laughing in her face as one calamity after another had her wondering if it could be HER that was the problem.  It was hard to not feel sorry for her, even though the situations had me laughing, because she really did seem to be a bad omen for any guy that came her way.  Jonathan, on the other hand, was the voice of reason and the temptation that she couldn’t deny, no matter how much she worried she’d bring her bad karma down on him!

I thoroughly enjoyed Delia’s entertaining struggles to navigate her love life, and Jonathan was the perfect fit for her neurotic and obsessive worries.  He was more than just the sexy chef, he was the one to break her curse, and it was so much fun being along for their journey!

Quotes:

“I havea zillion little black dresses,” I argued, “and they’re either too plain, or too fancy, or too short, or too long.  I could wear a little black dress every day for the rest of my life and I’d still be searching for The One.”  I plopped down onto my bed.  “Great.  A little black dress has become a metaphor for my love life.” ~Loc 520

“They’re college age?”
“And I’m not!”
“Think of them as eye candy,” Carly said.  “A calorie-free visual treat.” Loc 885

I wasn’t sure what I should do.  Sneak out of bed and pretend everything was cool? Or stay where I was and hope for the best?
God what I wouldn’t give for a breath mint right about then.  ~Loc 1677

I have worked as an attorney, winery tasting room manager, and retail business owner, but nothing beats the thrill of writing humorously-ever-after romances.

I reside in New England, although I fantasize about spending the rest of my days in a tropical locale, wearing flip flops year-round, or in Regency London, scandalizing the ton.

I can usually be found on Twitter talking about writing and coffee, and on Facebook atwww.facebook.com/Donna.Cummings.Author, talking about coffee and writing.
