REVIEW: Garrett (Cold Fury Hockey #2) by Sawyer Bennett

Garrett (Cold Fury Hockey #2) by Sawyer Bennett
Adult Contemporary Romance/Sports Romance
Amazon:  B&N : iBooks

Carolina Cold Fury star Garrett Samuelson never wants to miss out on a single minute of fun. Whether he’s playing hockey, hanging out with friends, or walking the red carpet with a new date on his arm, he lives every day to the fullest. When he meets Olivia Case, he sees someone who’s exactly his type—confident, sexy, smart . . . his next fling. But the more he pursues her, the more Garrett shares a side of himself that other women don’t normally get to see.

Olivia has been keeping a secret. While Garrett lives for the next thrill, Olivia’s not sure she’ll live to see the next day. She’s undergoing treatment for some serious medical issues, and she doesn’t have time for a relationship with no guarantees—especially one with a hot-as-sin womanizer who won’t take no for an answer. But as she gets to know the real Garrett, Olivia can’t help falling for him . . . hard. To reveal the truth would mean risking everything—but you can’t score without taking the tough shots.

I remember reading ALEX thinking that I would pick Garrett. This book made that statement a fact. That said, Playboy Garrett wasn't someone I expected to go the distance, but he surprised me. Big time. Under the funny and easy going exterior is a heart of gold.

Garrett was a much more emotional read than I was expecting. Don't get me wrong, there are light hearted moments and definitely moments that made me swoon, but I saw a man truly step up to be a man. He was there for the woman he was falling in love with in. Starting off a relationship under circumstances that can't be prevented is difficult. Most men would likely walk away, but not Garrett.

Garrett's stability, loyalty, and determination all won me over. The push/pull that he and Olivia played was fun to watch and also pulled at my heart, because I could relate to Olivia. She's trying hard not to fall for Garrett because of what she's going through, but he makes it hard not to fall. Watching them come together and work through the immediate challenges that they faced was truly spectacular.

While I loved watching their relationship unfold, one of my favorite parts of the book was the ending. I was so happy to see a brief glimpse into the future and I felt like I got to experience it all. It made me feel like I was a part of their lives.

I've always been a fan of Bennett's books, but this series reminds me of the reasons why I became a fan in the first place. It's the relationships, the character chemistry, and that overall swoon-factor that I love and is a strength of Bennett's. Plus, she writes about athletes, which is an automatic love for me.
