Coming Home to You (Rockport Beach series #1) by Claire Raye
Adult Contemporary Romance
Beck, now a hardened Boston detective and Kelsey, an inn owner in their small touristy town of Rockport, Massachusetts, find themselves struggling with the harsh reality that Kelsey’s life may be in serious danger.
Stalked and tormented by an ex-boyfriend, she begins to realize his threats are very much real. All she wants is to feel normal again and that’s when Beck shows up, bound and determined to save her.
But protecting Kelsey isn’t the only thing on Beck’s mind when their sexual tension steams hotter than a New England summer. Being this close begins to test both of their resolve, as emotions run high and all the feelings from the past begin to resurface.
Will they be able to grab onto this second chance at love, or will outside dangers threaten their chance at happiness?
Coming Home to You may be a story about rekindled first love, but Claire Raye gives her readers something different than your usual heart-wrenching tale of long-lost love. With a violent stalker ex in the picture, some sweet small-town heart, and a sexy leading man with some delightful alpha tendencies, readers of any genre will find something to enjoy with this thrilling story!
Kelsey and Beck left their relationship at a complete standstill ten years ago, her in tears begging him to stay and him refusing to allow himself to be stuck in the small town life… even if it meant an end to true love. It was abrupt, cold, and had no closure for either of them, so it was no surprise that both Kelsey and Beck had issues with moving on. She’d mourned the loss of her first love, dealt with what was left of her life back in Rockport, and did her best to have some semblance of a social life in the wake of utter heartbreak. Beck, meanwhile, had thrown himself into his job in Boston while taking advantage of no-strings-attached hookups when he could. Neither of them was happy, but neither of them was willing to do anything about the one thing that would truly make life worth living. That is, until Kelsey’s life was in danger and Beck’s protective instincts kicked in, even though they were a few years to late.
As much as I wanted to throttle Beck for his selfishness in leaving Kelsey behind all those years ago, I was willing to see if he could make it up to her when he swooped in to play knight in shining armor. With a seriously scary and completely loco ex after her, Kelsey was in need of someone willing to throw himself in the line of fire for her, and having the smooth-talking morsel Beck fill that role was fine by me!! The more clear it became just how twisted Kelsey’s ex was, the more intense things became between her and Beck. He was dealing with all of the ramifications of returning to the town he’d left behind—Kelsey, his family, and the memories of his old life all came flooding back. But always at the forefront were his feelings for the one woman he couldn’t get past, and they both tried and failed to fight it. It didn’t take much convincing for either of them to start caving to the sparks that were very much still firing off between them, and good lord they were all over each other like nobody’s business with some sizzling steamy scenes that will leave you panting!!
As for Kelsey’s predicament with her ex, the constant fear of what was around every corner was almost as exciting as the incredible chemistry between her and Beck. She was brave but terrified, rightfully so, and there were thriller movie-worthy moments that made me cringe. But Beck wasn’t about to let his girl down again, and I loved seeing him move heaven and earth to try and make up for the past. He and Kelsey had a tough road, but in the end their journey was definitely worth the read.
I don’t know if it’s regret or hurt or anger that continually brings him back to me, but whatever it is, I can’t seem to get past it. I know I need to move on and I’ve tried. I realize he isn’t coming back, but moving on has been harder than I thought. ~Loc 33
“I’m coming home,” I say, the words forced out as though even I can’t believe I’m saying them.
“I said, I’m coming home,” I repeat, knowing there’s no escaping the fact that I finally have a reason to go back to Rockport.
Fuck. ~Loc 505
But of course that all changed the second I saw her again. Even before I was inside her, I knew I was never going to be able to leave her again. I didn’t just still love her, I needed her, ached for her, wanted her with everything that I had. ~Loc 2469
