Only the hottest sex can cool a wolf in heat...
After her sister is bitten by a werewolf, geneticist Sophia Reece begins researching shape-shifters and isolates a gene she calls Furry Beast--FB for short. But in her excitement over her discovery--dancing in the lab is never a good idea--she has a teeny little accident with the samples, one canine, one feline, and winds up landing on the syringes, pointy side up.
Werewolf Chase is head over heels in lust with Sophia. He can't stop thinking about the human's sexy body or how badly he wants to get her naked. But she acts as if he has fleas. So why, all of a sudden, does she stare at him like a wolf in heat? And what smells like cat?
When she experiences her first mating heat, Sophia isn't prepared for the new feelings she's experiencing, and her secret desire for Chase refuses to remain under wraps. For Chase, this is his wildest fantasy come true--to finally get his hands on the curvy, caramel-skinned Latina. But when some serious predators come sniffing around her research, Sophia will have to find out what she's really made of, and Chase will have to decide if he's man--or wolf--enough to make things permanent...
My Take:
I love werewolf stories. I really do. I like the idea of a pack like structure. In reality, we all live that way to an extent, so it makes sense. I also like the way male wolfs, particularly the Alpha that takes charge and protects his pack. Aaaanndd...nine times out of ten, he's pretty hot too. Am I right?
Well, here the thing, I wasn't completely sold on Sophia. She just got on my nerves a bit. She's a scientist in search for a cure for her recently turned werewolf sister. Not only does Sophia find the cure, but she's also accidentally injected herself with not only wolf juice, but feline juice as well. So, Sophia finds herself carrying two different strains of animal inside. As she starts her change, she feels out of sorts and somewhat confused. Especially when, she faces Chase. Chase is the star of her every fantasy and in her mind, off limits. Oh, and he's the local wolf pack leader. But chemistry can't be denied and Sophia and Chase quickly learn that she is his mate. That's when she goes into heat. Literally.
Once word gets out that Sophia has a cure, mayhem ensues. Not only is Chase trying to satisfy his new mate, but now he finds himself having to save her life. There's a lot of action and by the end, Chase is the victor for the time being.
The book started out strong and I had high hopes. The sexy scenes were, well, sexy at the beginning. However, as the story grew I lost some interest and felt like the heat of their relationship dwindled a bit. I won't say that I gave up the story. Ultimately, I liked their relationship dynamic. Since this is a series, I have hopes that some of the initial heat between Sophia and Chase is rekindled.
If you are a fan of Erotic Paranormals, give this a go. It's short and read quickly. It has a nice set up to be a steamy series.
Sharp Change Bloopers
Most writers will tell you that a book is NOT written in a day. We sometimes have this awesome idea in our heads and just start writing to get it on paper. I may start a book before I even write the outline. That’s how badly I want to write. So sometimes mistakes happen. One of the mistakes I made through Sharp Change (I noticed this BEFORE I submitted) was that I kept forgetting my heroine’s eye color. In one scene she gray and in other areas it was light or dark brown. When I went back to read through it I was like ‘OMG she’s got a rainbow in her sockets!’ It made me laugh and freak. I now wondered what else I didn’t realize was multi-color.
Another mistake I made was call her Sofia. Her name is Sophia. But the Latina in me kept changing it to Sofia. Don’t know why, but I had Sophia and Sofia all over the place. My sister noticed this one. She asked me if my heroine had multiple personalities. LOL. I asked why and she said because I kept referring to her in two different names.
And the last mistake I will admit to is leaving a big BLANK when I couldn’t remember what word I wanted to use. Then when I went through the story I found all these BLANK spots and had to try to figure out what the heck I was trying to say. LOL. It made for some interesting reading.

The story, based on the synopsis, sounds like a comedy. Was it funny? And it sounds pretty steamy too. I'm glad you liked it. Maybe the heat will raise in book two.
ReplyDeleteI like werewolf stories too. This sounds like it was okay. I will have to wait to see what you think of the second book. I am laughing at the cover because it looks like the wolf is doing something to her boob lol!!
ReplyDeleteSo I love the wolf pack stories too but sadly based on your description I'm thinking I'll pass on this one.
