Losing It by Cora Carmack-New Adult Contemporary Romance
Kindle format given by author for review/blog tour/ARC
Bliss Edwards is about to graduate from college and still has hers. Sick of being the only virgin among her friends, she decides the best way to deal with the problem is to lose it as quickly and simply as possible-- a one-night stand. But her plan turns out to be anything but simple when she freaks out and leaves a gorgeous guy alone and naked in her bed with an excuse that no one with half-a-brain would ever believe. And as if if that weren't embarrassing enough, when she arrives for her first class of her last college semester, she recognizes her new theatre professor. She'd left him naked in her bed about 8 hours earlier.
I had seen this book around the blogging world and knew that I must have it. Then the opportunity came to participate in the tour and I jumped for it. I'm so glad that I did. It exceeded my expectations for this debut novel.
First off, I love the name Bliss. Having a unique name myself, I always appreciate when others do as well. While I couldn't relate to Bliss personally, I really liked her. She's funny, confident, and despite some normal girl insecurities, seems to have solid sense of self. I wasn't expecting the humor in the story, but there were many times I was cracking up. I love when I find a story that can make me laugh, as well as swoon.
Now, for the love of all that is swoony...we have Garrick. I could hear his accent in my head while I was reading and it was making me prrrr... Garrick is not only sexy, but he is truly a great guy. Bliss and Garrick's relationship certainly starts off on an interesting foot, but I appreciated that Garrick seemed to stay true to himself and his feelings throughout the story.
As for the story, I felt like it was very realistic. I mean, can you imagine meeting a handsome/sexy stranger in a bar, make out with him, then go to school and find out he's your new teacher??? Awkward doesn't even begin to describe how I would feel about that. Bliss and Garrick handle it pretty well though. Bliss is embarrassed about running out on Garrick, but he never made her feel bad about it. He just didn't understand what he did wrong. Neither one of them can stop thinking about each other, but the fact that he is her teacher puts a block on having an out in the open relationship. Plus, Bliss hasn't ever really felt like this about someone before and her feelings make her a bit nervous. Garrick is patient and understanding with her. He really made my heart melt.
I absolutely adored the ending and the epilogue. The ending was prefect for Bliss and Garrick. It showed that Bliss was able to hold on to her beliefs, but also learn to take some chances with her heart and career. The epilogue left me smiling. I'm a big fan of the epilogue. I love to see how things end up.
If you like a good love story with some steam, this is a perfect fit for you. I certainly look forward to reading more of Cora Carmack's work.
