Spill Over by Jolene Perry Review & Giveaway

Spill Over by Jolene Perry-YA Contemporary Romance
Kindle format purchased on Amazon

Summary:
"I'm not in New York.
I'm friends with a girl.
I'm living on a boat... with my dad...
At this point, I figure anything's possible."

When an assignment overseas gives Antony's Mom the opportunity of a lifetime, she sees it as a chance for Antony to get to know his dad - a guy strange enough to live on a boat. Near dreary Seattle. Antony’s sure that the next few months will feel like a lifetime. He and his dad can’t even fill up a five minute conversation on his birthday call.

Then he meets Amber, the girl from five boats down, and his prospects perk up. But when it becomes very clear, very fast, that all she’s after is friendship, Antony wonders if he’ll survive the next three months.

He is absolutely. Completely. Totally. Displaced.

And then tragedy hits.

Spill Over is a novel about love, loss, and figuring out what’s actually important.

My Take:
This is my first book by Jolene Perry. It was recommended to me by a good author friend, who thought I would like Jolene's work. Well, she was right! The blurb does a great job of explaining what the story is about, so I'm going to focus on the characters.

I'll be honest, when you first meet Antony, he seems like he's a spoiled kid who takes advantage of the fact that he's lead a privileged life. Really though, he's just a good guy. I truly loved the relationship he had with his mother. They were so close and shared many different adventures with each other. It was really endearing to see that. I felt like he was a little tough on his dad, but only because he really didn't know him like he thought he did. I enjoyed seeing how their relationship changed and was glad to see his father step up and really be there for Antony.

As for Amber...I liked her immediately. I did get frustrated with her at times, because of her fears. Although, I understood why she felt like she needed to guard herself from Antony. He lived a different life than she did and had more experience. However, I loved that she was so open in accepting him and befriending him. Amber truly was a solid support for Antony. I loved their dialogue, their chemistry, and their trust in each other.

This really was such a great story. I read it one evening with my friend Valerie from Stuck in Books. Because there were some difficult situations in the book, it was really nice to have someone to read along and share with. If you are looking for a well written, heart felt story, be sure to check this one out!
