Inhale (Just Breathe 1) by Kendall Grey Review

Inhale (Just Breathe 1) by Kendall Grey-Adult Urban Fantasy Romance
Kindle format/won from The Bookish Babe

Summary:
Strangers in reality, inseparable in dreams…

After years of suffocating under her boss’s scrutiny, whale biologist Zoe Morgan finally lands a job as director of a tagging project in Hervey Bay, Australia. Success Down Under all but guarantees her the promotion of a lifetime, and Zoe won’t let anything—or anyone—stand in her way. Not the whale voices she suddenly hears in her head, not the ex who won’t take no for an answer, and especially not the gorgeous figment of her imagination who keeps saving her from the fiery hell of her dreams.

Gavin Cassidy hasn’t been called to help a human Wyldling in over a year, which is fine by him. Still blaming himself for the death of his partner, he keeps the guilt at bay by indulging in every excess his rock star persona affords. That is, until he’s summoned to protect Zoe from hungry Fyre Elementals and learns his new charge is the key to restoring order in the dying Dreaming. He never expects to fall for the feisty Dr. Morgan…nor does he realize he may have to sacrifice the woman he loves to save an entire country.

*This book contains graphic language, sex, and some violence. Not suitable for readers under the age of 18.

**The author will donate all profits from the sale of the JUST BREATHE trilogy to programs that educate people about whales and the challenges they face.

My Take:
Inhale is the kind of book that lingers on your mind for days. It's been a few days since I've finished reading it and I'm still captivated by this intriguing story. I had a few friends read this book and rave about it, so naturally I was anxious to read it. I didn't really know much about the story before I started reading, but I am a fan of Urban Fantasy. From the first page, I was sucked into this truly unique world of Gavin Cassidy.

I'm going to talk a bit about Gavin, because he's the first character I met. It doesn't happen to me often, but I fell hard for this guy on the first page. Seriously. I won't leak details of what exactly made my heart go pitter pat, but believe me when I say that this guy is special. He's a protector by nature and by occupation. He loves passionately and honestly. Oh...did I mention he's a Rock Star? He really is a Rock Star in a band. Even with that immediate hotness label, he truly is spectacular.

Zoe is the woman that brings Gavin back from his dark place. There is something special about Zoe and her secrets are slowly revealed throughout the book. I liked that there is mystery to her character. She has a purpose in this world of Dreaming. Zoe lives her life with compassion for others and the animals she cares for. Her connection with the whales was beautiful.

As for the relationship between Gavin and Zoe, I would say it was inevitable. There was an instant connection between them when they first meet and I hope it's not wishful thinking on my part, but in my mind they are truly meant to be together. They have so much passion and love for each other, that I can't wait to see where they go from here.

I feel that I need to voice my intense dislike for Scarlet. She is one evil wench. She makes my skin crawl. I'm not sure there would be anyone to disagree with me on that one. Not much else to say about that.

Sinnder on the other hand, I'm oddly attracted to. He's not a good guy, but I don't think he's fully on board with Scarlet either. I don't know all the facts on him yet. He's still a bit of a mystery, but boy does he ooze sex appeal. I know he plays a bigger role in the rest of the series, so I can't wait to see how his character develops and if my thoughts about him will remain the same.

I really liked the concept of the book. I like that the dream world is also a reality and that what happens there, affects the real world too. I also loved the water element. I'm drawn to water stories.

My overall thoughts are that I was completely impressed with the originality of the story. I could totally visualize the places and actions in the story. I had a really hard time putting the book down. In fact, I love this story so much, that I've re-arranged my reading schedule so I can get to Exhale sooner. I don't think you even need to be a fan of Urban Fantasy to appreciate this book. It's a beautiful and unique love story that could appeal to any ADULT.

  2. Reading this now and I completely agree about Gavin & Zoe. Love them both. Gavin as a little of that tortured soul thing going. AND Scarlet - yeah you are so right about her.

This book is taking me forever to read. I think it the multi POV's. I really only like the Gavin & Zoe parts. I tend to put it down when I reach a non-them section.

    Great review girl!

  5. I loved the Gavin and Zoe parts - oh and the Sinnder parts too, however I tended to skip over the parts that had lots about the Elementals etc. I had trouble getting into that part of the story, but I'm not sure why...I wanted to do some very awful things to Scarlet, but not half as much as I did after reading Exhale! Oooh she's evil!!!

I loved that it is set in Queensland because I love it up there and I have a thing for tattoos and piercings, so Gavin is perfect!
