I'd like to welcome my friend Erin to the blog today! Erin and I share the same taste in books and often read the same books at the same time. So, I asked her if she would be interested in writing a review as a guest reviewer on the blog, and she accepted! YAY! Erin recently read Bared to You by Sylvia Day. I have it in my reading pile, so we thought this would be the perfect book for her to do her review on. Here's what she thought.
Bared to You (Crossfire 1) by Sylvia Day-Adult Contemporary Romance
Erin read in Kindle format purchased on Amazon.
Eva Tramell is excited about her move to New York city. She's found a great apartment, and despite her rich step-father's connections, she's making her own way with an entry-level position at a popular ad agency. What she wasn't expecting was Gideon Cross. He's successful, powerful, wealthy, and physical perfection, and he makes no effort to hide his desire for Eva. She can't fight the indescribable sparks that ignite every time he's near, and she finds herself giving in to the passion that haunts her every thought. But as the walls start to come down and the scars from their battered pasts are revealed, Gideon and Eva are forced to face the reality of their situation. When two people carry around so much pain, nothing is going to be simple, and it may be too much for either of them to bear.
This was my first time reading Sylvia Day's work, and I was definitely impressed!! Bared to You was such a thrilling, sexy, heart-wrenching, and unsettling story, and it left me breathless; I am so excited for this series!! It's a roller coaster of emotions from start to finish, and my heart still races thinking about what Gideon and Eva go through for each other! They are such tortured souls, and they complete each other like perfectly fit pieces to a puzzle. Granted, they put the 'fun' in dysfunctional relationship, but it was as if their needs were meant to soothe each other's pain. Gideon needs to be in control but is undeniably enticed by Eva's strength, and Eva is terrified of losing control but finds comfort in Gideon's power over her desires. It's the makings of the perfect storm, and I couldn't look away!!
I was really impressed with Eva, she was such a strong character. After all that she'd suffered through in her life, she's remarkably determined and makes it very clear to Gideon how she feels. Gideon is a force of nature, but Eva is no wallflower, and their power struggles were as fascinating as they were scorching!! And Gideon...oh, how intoxicating he is!! From the moment he crosses paths with Eva, I was captivated by this mysterious man. Eva's fascination and attraction to him left me anxiously awaiting his every return to the story, I just couldn't get enough of him!! He and Eva simply can't resist each other, and steamy doesn't begin to describe their moments together; they're blazing!!! *fans self*
Not surprisingly, many readers are comparing this book to Fifty Shades of Grey due to some obvious similarities in the plot. But this is not just some knock-off story that tries to ride the coat tails of a successful series, and where the similarities end there is an entirely new experience that FINALLY helped lessen that huge void that Christian Grey left behind!! Gideon and Eva's story goes well beyond their insatiable lust for each other, and their self-destructive tendencies created such an emotional and heartbreaking tornado of a romance. Gideon has a walk-in closet full of skeletons that have yet to be revealed, and the broken hearts he's left behind are determined to stay in his life despite Eva's presence. There's definitely a sinister, ticking-time-bomb feel to the plot in this story, and every time it seemed like they might finally be getting a break from the drama, there was yet another twist that ripped them apart. I'll be anxiously awaiting the sequel to find out what's lurking behind all of those closed doors, and how Eva and Gideon face it all. I just love these characters, I love their story, and I very much look forward to more from the Crossfire series!!
